I know this post is very delayed, but I figured better late than never, right?
Ever since I’ve been back from my travels I’ve been struggling to get back into the swing of things. I’m getting there though, and seeing that it’s February (finally) – seriously January felt like it was 6 months long! * wipes brow * – I knew I had to get this post up as many of you voted for it on my Instagram instastory a while ago. So, as the title suggests, today I will be sharing a few products that really stood out to me and have earned themselves a spot in my 2017 favorites. These products are listed in no particular order.
Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow PaletteSome of you might know I love Jaclyn Hill, so as soon as she shared her Youtube video reveal of this palette I knew I had to have it. Every single shade is so me. When it finally released it sold out so fast I was unable to get it. When it was restocked I missed it again and I was so disappointed. I finally managed to order one in August and I figured I’d buy it for myself as an early birthday gift. It was money well spent! When I received my palette the first week of September I was so excited to start playing with it. The consistency of the shades as well as pigmentation is an absolute dream. I haven’t stopped loving this palette since. I will do a full review and swatches if you’d like to see that. In the meantime, if you are looking for a palette that has it all; this is it. I kid you not. This palette is it. If you only owned one palette in your collection – let it be this one. It has every shade you need for simple – glam/dramatic looks. I could go as far as saying it’s my favorite palette to be released in 2017.
Stila Glitter And Glow Liquid Eyeshadow in Kitten KarmaI love a good glitter for a dramatic evening eye look, but I hate when the glitter transfers onto ur lashes, under eye area, nose etc. Some glitters are really messy, even if you use a great glue. I always struggled to find a glitter I liked, but I finally did when I first tried this Stila product. I used it for an evening event I attended in November, and after 12am it was still as opaque as when I first applied it. I had it on for 9+ hours and when I got home it was still looking amazing. It was still super sparkly and didn’t fade or transfer at all. It stays put all day too! heart eyes. I even took it with me on my travels and it worked amazingly each time. I definitely want to add some more of these to my collection.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer After months of research and watching countless reviews on this concealer I finally caved and ordered it. I was skeptical at first because I didn’t really believe all the hype around it. Everyone who is everyone in the beauty world raved about this concealer and let me tell you, after trying it for myself I can firmly say that the hype is real. This concealer covers EVERYTHING and I mean everything. Haven’t slept in a week? Shape tape has got your covered! No pun intended.
Artist Of Makeup Extreme Art Liner PenI always recommend this product to everyone looking for a super fine, ultra-black eyeliner that’s long lasting, doesn’t dry out or smudge. This is by far the best felt tip eyeliner I have ever used. It’s so much better than the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. I feel like you get regular felt tip liners, then you get this – an industrial strength eyeliner that means business! Also when the ink is all used up, you just buy a refill cartridge – how brilliant!
LA Girl Pro Coverage HD Long Wear Illuminating FoundationAs some of you might know I do not wear foundation often. I prefer a tinted moisturizer – Bobbi Brown – for everyday (even though most days I’ll go bare faced) and my foundations for special occasions. I personally feel that foundation is too much for me for everyday. They can start feeling a bit heavy and in some cases my face will feel clogged. However, when I first started using the LA Girl Foundation it completely exceeded my expectations. It’s my favorite drugstore foundation as it’s so lightweight and gives me the most beautiful finish. It’s not full coverage, so my skin kinda peeks through making it look so natural. I still don’t wear it everyday but when I feel like doing a full face of makeup just for the heck of it, I always reach for this foundation. LA Girl hit it out of the park with this one! My only gripe is this foundation does transfer quite a bit (see my full review here) But hey, considering the price point and how well it works for me, I’m not mad at it.
Tarte Tartiest Pro To Go Eyeshadow PaletteI know I already have an eyeshadow palette in this post but I had to add this one as well. It’s quite small so it’s my go-to palette for travel. You can create various looks with just these 6 shades and rest assured the shadows will look beautiful each time because the quality is outstanding. These shades are right up my alley as they look beautiful on majority of skin tones. I’ve also noticed that there’s just something about the formula of these shadows that’s superior to that of the Tarte In Bloom palette. It blends like an absolute dream and feels so smooth and soft. A winner in my books!
Kiki Beauty Rose Wax Lip BalmA staple in my beauty routine, this lip balm is incredible! You can read my full review here. I took this product with me on my travels last month and it was honestly such a life-saver! It was Winter in Saudi Arabia so my lips was chapped and dry, but I whipped this baby out and all was well. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever find another lip balm as amazing as this one. I even got my mom hooked. She used mine once in Saudi and every time I looked for it she had it in her handbag. She’s extremely picky about lip products and skin care, so when I got her hooked on this product it felt like such an achievement. I know it’s not as affordable as Labello, Soft Lips, Lip Ice and other lip balms at the drugstore but trust me when I tell you it is so worth the price tag. Your lips will thank you in the long run!
Original Makeup EraserI have sensitive skin and eyes so often makeup wipes irritate my skin. I’ve tried many brands and majority of them leaves either my face or my eyes burning. I then bought my first makeup eraser a few years ago and it has been a staple since. It’s so incredibly gentle on my skin and removes everything, even waterproof makeup. I received this blue one as a birthday gift and I was so glad because the pink one I had definitely needed to be replaced as I used it almost everyday. I still use makeup removers/wipes from time to time but my Makeup Eraser is always very close by.
Pink Cosmetics Solid Brush CleanerFrom the very first time I used this I was in awe. It makes washing my brushes and sponges so easy and cleans them all so, so well. It also lasts quite a while and smells amazing. I will never use another solid brush cleaner again. Ever. The best part is that this product is handmade and doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients. It deserves all of the hype because it is indeed an amazing product. See my full review here.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo – Ebony Anastasia Beverly Hills really is the queen of brows. I thought this powder would be too dark but it matches my brow color perfectly. I also thought it would be the same as any regular ‘ol brow powder but man was I wrong. I don’t know how Anastasia did it but this is by far the best brow powder I have ever used from any higher end brand. I never mess up my brows when using this, so of course it’s earned a spot in my favorites.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow GelBecause I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow powder duo, I needed something to “hold” and “set” my brows in place. I decided to try this clear brow gel and HOLY EYEBROWS it’s amazing! This stuff is like glue for your brows. You can be sweating buckets but rest assured your brows will still be snatched. I even use this product on it’s own and it gives my brows such a natural, feathery look. I’m obsessed.
Ben Nye Banana PowderThe hype surrounding this product has died down quite a bit but it needs to make it’s rounds again because this powder is certainly hype-worthy. It’s amazing for medium-darker skin. It gives the skin such a beautiful highlighted effect and doesn’t look ashy/ghostly, like some powders do. I only got my hands on it around October last year but since then it has become my go-to powder.
Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Face Palette My most prized possession in my entire collection. My very first Becca product and it was love at first swatch sighs in content I don’t think I will ever fall out of love with this palette. It’s insanely pigmented and the blendability is beautiful.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Contour Palette Anastasia did it again with this palette. I used to prefer cream contouring but after a while I just didn’t like all the layering for everyday. I struggled to find a powder contour shade that wasn’t too orange/grey. I couldn’t bring myself to buy this palette because it is expensive. After searching some more for the perfect contour shade I found one at Bobbi Brown. It was so pricey for just the one shade that I figured I might as well get this palette and get 6 shades instead of just one. I’m so glad I got this because the powders aren’t patchy or cakey and the shades are very versatile. I use the middle shade for contour and the left shade for bronzer. The pans are not very big but the powders are so pigmented that a little goes a long way. Anastasia has fast become one of my favorite makeup brands. Please excuse how roughed up my poor palette looks – it is well loved, but I’m sure you can tell.
Catrice Lumination HighlighterThis is my absolute favorite product from Catrice Cosmetics. It was from the Limited Edition Lumination collection. If I knew how much I’d love it I would have bought a backup! The thing I love most about this highlighter is how finely milled it is. It goes on SO smooth and doesn’t “crumble”. I always wear this as my nose highlight because it looks so smooth and flawless. It doesn’t contain any glitter/shimmers, just a beautiful, lit from within sheen. I would love if Catrice could bring this limited edition back. I really didn’t expect much from this product but I was blown away once I started using it.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in LondonI’m not crazy about this formula, but this particular shade is my favorite nude. I wear this shade so often and each time I do, I get so many compliments.
LA Girl Lip Liner in NaturalMy favorite nude lip pencil for 2 years now. I cannot believe it only costs R20. It’s not the best lip pencil but it is pretty decent. I always pair this with the above lip product from NYX. When mixed together, it is the perfect brownish nude for my skin tone. It isn’t too red nor too orange, it’s just perfect! Whenever I cannot decide on a lip color I always go back to this combo. It’s like a safety net. I always take this lip combo with me when I travel as well. It fits with a variety of different eye looks and when I don’t want to pack 10 different lip colors, I always just take these 2 instead.
Best Beauty Buys Vanity Light Up MirrorA good mirror is always important when doing your makeup. I used to use a mirror from Dischem but it wasn’t big enough unless I held it in my hand. I don’t like holding a mirror in my hand when doing my makeup, it’s just my personal preference. So when I got this mirror I was so stoked because it’s the perfect size and it lights up! It’s so nifty. I often use the lights when I need to do my makeup late afternoon/early morning. Before I had this mirror I just used to use a flash light for lighting * laughs * but often the light was so bright it would hurt my eyes. The lights on this mirror is pretty bright but not blinding, so you can actually see what you’re doing. I use the little magnifying mirror for my brows as it makes doing brows just that little bit easier.
And that’s it for my 2017 favorites guys. Which products did you guys fall in love with in 2017? I would love to know. Here’s to discovering many rave worthy products in 2018.
