Morphe X Jaclyn Hill VS Mystique Beauty Galaxy Palette

Ever since the release of the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill palette last year, other private labeled online stores followed suit rather quickly with a supposed dupe for the much sought after palette.Last year Mystique Beauty kindly sent me their galaxy palette. This post came highly requested by majority of my followers on Instagram , so today I will comparing the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill and Mystique Galaxy eyeshadow palettes.

First things first –

Packaging:

The Jaclyn Hill palette is housed in a soft cardboard box, while the Mystique palette comes in a cardboard sleeve. Both palettes have 35 eyeshadows and they also have the same dimensions.

Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Palette Ingredients (as taken from their website) :

Talc, Mica, Kaolin, Dimethicone, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Capryl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. May contain: Isononyl Isononanoate, Isostearyl Isostearate, Nylon-12, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Titanium Dioxide (CI77891), Iron Oxide Black (CI77499), Iron Oxide Yellow (CI77492), Iron Oxide Red (CI77491), Hydrated Chromium Oxide Green (CI77289), Ultramarine Blue (CI77007), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI77510), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI77288), Manganese Violet (CI77742), FD&C Red 40 AI Lake (CI16035), FD&C Yellow 5 AI Lake (CI19140), FD&C Blue 1 AI Lake (CI42090).

Mystique Beauty Galaxy Palette Ingredients (as taken from their website) :

Talc, Mica, Mineral Oil, Kaolin, Titanium Dioxide, magnesium Stearate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Lanolin, Methylparaben.

As you can see, the JH palette has way more ingredients. Some of the Mystique ingredients are the same as the JH palette, but they definitely do differ in the amount of total ingredients.

Shade Comparisons:

The JH eyeshadows has shade names while the Mystique eyeshadows does not.

I have swatched them from the left down, vertically. The JH shadows are on the right and the Mystique shadows on the left – please excuse my dry hands, the wet wipes were really drying them out between all the swatches. Also, the lighting changes in the last few swatches because the sun was setting, so please bare with me.

As you can see some shades are really close to one another, but others not so much.

I’ve played around with both palettes for quite a while now and I’ve found that some of the shimmers in the Mystique palette is quite creamy and packs a good amount of pigment. Because of the consistency of the some shimmer shades though,it does tend to crumble on your eyelids/transfer, if you apply a heavy layer. The mattes are quite tricky. A few of them are really hard to pick up with a brush (mostly the lighter pale shades) and they are really dusty. As you can see from above swatches they are not as smooth nor as pigmented as the JH shadows. You really have to dig your brush in the pan to pick up a good amount of product. A few shades apply really patchy on the eye as well and is really difficult to blend out, while others are much easier to work with. There is definitely more fall out with the Mystique palette compared to the JH, but it doesn’t bother me because I always apply my eye makeup first before moving onto my face. The Mystique eyeshadows are not as long lasting as the JH palette and they do crease if you are not wearing an eyeshadow primer.

Overall: The Jaclyn Hill palette is far superior to the Mystique palette, but considering they are not the same formula, do not have all the same ingredients and they have a difference in price point, you can’t be expecting an exact Jaclyn Hill palette.

If you can, I would say save the extra pennies and get yourself the JH palette. However, if paying R1000+ is just not in your budget just for an eyeshadow palette then I would definitely recommend trying out the Mystique palette, especially if you really love the Jaclyn Hill eyeshadow shades.

The trick with the Mystique shadows is to prime your lids, make sure to set them with translucent powder, and to take your time slowly layering the eyeshadow color(s) as it will blend easier that way.

I also have to make mention that Mystique Beauty is a private labeled store. I do not know the process of how they go about getting their palettes, so if you guys have any questions regarding that please get in touch with Mystique Beauty. The Galaxy palette retails for R320 on sale here.

I hope you guys found this post helpful. Let me know if you would like to see more of these types of posts in future.

Disclaimer: I received this palette from Mystique Beauty free of charge but that does not influence my option on it. This is not a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

I have the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette and I love it. Had a friend buy it for me when she went to the States, and the total cost amounted to just over R500. Much less than buying it from an online store here in SA 🙂

I love my JH palette oh sooo much. Wore it again today and I can’t get enough. These eyeshadows are just absolutely stunning.

Thank you for this review and comparison. I’ve been waiting for this. The Mystique seems like an ok palette for the price but one can’t tell by the swatches that it needs to be built up quite a bit.

This was a really helpful comparison that helped me decide against getting the Mystique Beauty Palette.
I have the Dupe Factorie version of this and I’m quite happy with how it fares.
I’d be interested to see your thoughts on Jaclyn Hill’s next release and how it compares to the original Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Palette.

Thank you for reading. I’m so sad about the new Jaclyn Hill palette release being pushed back, but I suppose it’s better to perfect the product before selling it, especially since shipping to SA is SO expensive.
