If you read this post as well as this one you’d know by now, that the lovely Janet from Pink Cosmetics contacted me asking me if I would like to interview the finalists that won her Pink Cosmetics influencer competition. I was very happy that she thought of me for this project as I’ve always loved how she supports up-and-coming creatives. I immediately accepted her offer and am very grateful for this opportunity.
The finalists were chosen based on the following criteria:
- Picture appropriateness/quality
- Engagement on posts
- Amount of times discount codes were used
Today – albeit overdue, I am posting my interview with Jessica from Just A City Girl blog.
Jessica is the final winner of the Pink Cosmetics influencer competition.
Janet sent me a list of questions to ask Jessica and I added some of my own as well. This is a great way to learn a bit more about your favourite creatives.
I’ve been following Jessica on Instagram and reading her blog for almost 2 years now. In fact, we actually collaborated on a blog post back in 2017. I really enjoy her style posts and I think she’s killin’ it at creating quality content. Jessica is the winner of best picture quality/appropriateness of Pink Cosmetics products. If you check out her blog here, you’d see that her photography really is stunning! Anyway, here is the full dialogue of the questions (Q) and answers (A) as discussed during the interview.
(Q) When did you start your blog and why?
(A) I started my blog in early 2016 to have a platform where I can share my
addictions with like-minded people. I’ve always loved beauty & style & I
wanted my platform to be a bit of both.
(Q) What’s your favorite between beauty and makeup posts and why?
(A) Hmmm, I think probably doing makeup posts, because you can get a little
(Q) Whats your favourite book, colour and place?
(A) My favourite book – does the Cosmopolitan count? Haha, I’m not really the
biggest reader. My favourite colour at the moment is yellow/mustard. This
changes all the time. My favourite place would most definitely be New
York. I’ve never been, but I’m a city girl & NY is the ultimate city.
(Q) What have you learned from your blog?
(A) That things won’t always go as planned or work out the way it worked out
in your head and that’s okay. There’s SO much I’ve learnt from blogging &
being in the blogging world – I can go on forever.
(Q) What advice to you have for newbies who are wanting to start a blog?
(A) It’s more than just starting a blog, it’s having a passion for it & to
keep going & working hard. Blogging takes time and dedication if you have
an end goal in sight & want to grow & work with brands. A properly planned
blog post won’t take you 30min to slap together, creating content isn’t
just a quick photo here and there. If you’re doing it just for fun, then I
suppose you can wing it a little more.
(Q) What are some blogging goals you have that you hope to achieve in the next year?
(A) To be honest, my brain has completely just shutdown over the last couple
of months. I’m exhausted, I’m stressed out, 2018 has been tough all round,
in my work place, my personal life, my business, my blog – it’s just been
a long, hard & stressful year. So I haven’t even sat back and thought of
any 2019 goals. I suppose building my following & being more consistent
are 2 of them. And then I’ve been trying to find a theme for my Instagram.
I just want my images to flow better with each other – this task is so
much harder than it seems.
(Q) What is your favorite Pink Cosmetics products and why?
(A) My ultimate product from Pink Cosmetics is the cleansing balm. I don’t
think I will ever use any other cleansing balm. I love everything about
it, the ingredients, the smell, how well it removes makeup – I use it just
as an everyday cleanser too. It’s natural, it’s affordable, it’s local.
(Q) What are 3 things you always have in your handbag?
(A) I’m actually one of those girls that don’t have specific things in my
handbag all the time. As long as I have my phone and my purse with me, I’m
good. I do always have a handbag though & most of the time there is always
a lipstick or some sort of a lip product in there along with my purse & my
phone. Most of the time I have some wet wipes & body spray with me too.
(Q) What is your favorite skincare step?
(A) I’ve actually never thought of this – I’ve always loved a good cleanser &
how my skin feels after I have washed it. So I think cleansing is my
(Q) Any skincare tips you’d like to share that you think more people should know about?
(A) Other than the obvious, like don’t sleep with your makeup & always use
SPF, I swear by double cleansing. It’s the best thing you can do for your
skin. Sometime I am a little lazy too – and don’t double cleanse, but
sometimes i even triple cleanse. It just makes the biggest difference.
A big thank you to Jessica for sharing a little about herself with us. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her answers as I’m sure you guys did too. You can check her out here:
