Hi my lovlies. How have you guys been? Can you believe we’re almost halfway through Ramadan? Time really does fly. Make the most of the remainder of this blessed month whilst it is still here.
Today I have a review for you guys on this *mask If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen an unboxing I did a while ago. I was generously gifted some goodies to try out from Shop Betty, which I am so so grateful for. Included was a Kylie lip kit, Dose Of Colors palette and this mask. I had only ever tried Pixi makeup before this (an eyeshadow palette, to be exact) so I was extremely overjoyed to be able to try my very first Pixi Beauty skincare product.

I love that there are beneficial ingredients in this product. Red ginseng which helps to brighten, probiotics to help strengthen, caffeine to help de-puff and energize, lactic acid to detoxify, oxygen complex to protect against toxins and glycerin to moisturize.
The product is housed in the signature mint Pixi packaging that I personally think is oh-so-cute! It comes in a pump dispenser but I wish the bottle was transparent so I could see how much product I have left as I’m using it. It contains 50ml / 1.69 fl.oz of product.
The product is specifically intended to be used before makeup application or a big event. When I read the instructions I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve only ever tried one other foaming mask in the past and it wasn’t great. The instructions said to apply this mask onto dry, clean skin. The product is transparent, liquidy and very gel like, but upon massaging it into the skin it stars to bubble and foam upIn the above photo it didn’t start bubbling yet but I wanted to include the photo anyway so you guys had an idea of how the consistency of the product changes. The bubbles don’t expand as much as typical bubble masks do. Rather, it bubbles subtly but bubble it sure does!
It’s really easy to spread and has a pleasant scent. You have to work quickly with spreading the product because it starts changing color/texture after 3-5 seconds on your face. When it bubbles you can hear some sizzling sounds. I noticed that not a lot of product comes out of the pump. I needed 2-3 pumps to cover my whole face.
I kept it on for 3 minutes and my face did start to tingle a bit. It’s completely normal for a bubble mask though. It wasn’t unpleasant or painful in any way and it didn’t sting my eyes. Sometimes just a heavy scent in a product can sting my eyes really badly. If you’re new to bubble masks the tingling might be a bit uncomfortable but you quickly get used to it as it’s not a lasting effect (at least not in my case). When I rinsed the mask off with luke warm water my face felt clean, but not as clean as it does when I use my usual face wash. It’s to be expected though, because this isn’t a face wash/cleanser but rather a mask so you can’t expect it to be a substitute, you know what I mean? Anyway, my skin felt clean enough without feeling oily or stripped of it’s natural oils. My face looked a little bit for even, visibly brighter, less dull and felt quite smooth – more so than usual. The biggest effect was how bright my skin looked. I didn’t expect to see immediate result but I sure did! It’s like a big breath of fresh air, but for your skin. Granted it is a short term effect, which is usually the case for most masks unless it is used regularly over a long period of time. For days when you want a little extra TLC or you have a big event or something like that coming up, this is definitely something that works within minutes.
On days when I want some extra moisture before applying my makeup, I’d usually use a sheet mask. To me personally it does make a difference as to how my makeup applies – albeit a very small difference – but face masks take up to 20 minutes which I don’t often have time for. I mean, who does! This mask however makes is really easy to incorporate that pre-makeup routine as it needs only 2-3 minutes on the skin. It brightens my skin more than any sheet mask I’ve tried to date. It doesn’t cause skin irritation (at lease not on me) and once you’ve rinsed and dried your face you can immediately moisturize and start your makeup application. No waiting time needed! Pretty brilliant, right? I sure think so. I even use it on days when I’m not wearing makeup but just want my skin to look a bit brighter. I have extremely sensitive combination skin, just for reference. The mask can be used anytime of the day/night.
Personally the price is a bit steep and if you plan on using it everyday it won’t be worth it because I don’t think it will last very long when used so often. However if you use it only on days you need extra TLC – like I have – then it should last you a decent amount of time. As far as claims for this product go, I can firmly say that it delivers and does exactly what it claims to do. I’ve been using mine once or twice a week for about two and a half months now and I’d say there’s still about 40% of product left (from what I can feel as I cannot see through this packaging).
This is definitely not something you need in your life but like I said, if you do want that extra “boost” and it’s something you’ll use then go for it! It retails for R640 from Shop Betty. It does work out cheaper than sheet masks because you get 50ml of product and I’d guess around 100+ pumps. If you calculate it, a sheet mask is usually R50-90 each and it is one time use, so in the long run this isn’t that pricey. I do understand though that it is still a lot of money to fork out at once, especially if you’re on a budget. Still, if you’d use it it’s worth checking out. It is currently out of stock but be sure to check out the other Pixi Beauty products on their website in the meantime. They will be restocking this mask very soon! If you’d like you can also follow them on Instagram to be updated on new arrivals, promo’s or sales. Their products are all authentic and their service is very good too! I’ve ordered from them twice and both times it was a very pleasant experience! They also have some great international makeup brands available, so be sure to check that out!
Have you tried Pixi Beauty products yet? What is your favorite product of theirs?
